About Iceland

General Information

We’ve compiled some suggested reading for everyone who wants to learn more about the country, its people and what makes it such a unique place.  Iceland is a great place for the outdoors, for food and for sheer natural beauty.

Weather

While we are there, the weather is expected to be around 50°F, but overall the weather is extremely unpredictable (Good news, May is typically the driest month).  During the end of May, Iceland gets about 20+ hours of daylight. While the wedding activities will be indoors, the Golden Circle tour on Friday and party will be outside.

We recommend you bring the following items:

  • fleece jacket
  • raincoat
  • windbreaker
  • hiking boots and/or comfortable walking shoes
  • sunglasses
  • bathing suit (for the Blue Lagoon and the many geothermally heated public pools around the city)
  • dress up clothes for going out (think going out in NYC)

Money

Icelandic currency is the Kronur.  Here’s a link to help you figure the exchange rate as the wedding gets closer.

Misc.

What's that smell?? - You might be asking this when you get off of the plane.  Because the hot water in Iceland is heated geothermally, it smells of sulfur.  Don't worry, you will get used to it.

Arrival Advice: We know our friends, and this is very important if anyone is interested in doing some group happy hour-ing.  The cost of drinks and alcohol in Iceland is high.  Upon arrival at the airport, we advise everyone to purchase their maximum allotment of alcohol at the duty free store, which equates to around two bottles of liquor/wine.
